Tony and Laura Burgess

About Us

HISTORY: We both were born in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Laura grew up in the Brainerd community and graduated from Brainerd High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; Tony grew up on Signal Mountain and graduated from Red Bank High School, Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tennessee and Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. We were married on April 10, 1999. Tony has one sister (Shannon), and Laura has one sister (Marcia) and one brother (Phil) and a collection of nieces and nephews.

WORK: Laura works for KinderCare Learning Centers as a teacher of 3 year olds. Tony works for Olan Mills in their Church Directory Division as an outbound marketing representative.

PETS: Our beloved dog Mikey passed away at age 16 in March of 2009. In August of 2009, we adopted Cody, a two-year-old yellow Lab mix who is a gentle giant (most of the time). We have also had a parade of hamsters in and out of the house since 2007, including Syrian, Campbell’s and Chinese varieties.

CHURCH: We were members of First-Centenary United Methodist Church at the time we married (we met in the Singles One group there). When we moved to Murfreesboro in 2000, we joined Trinity UMC, where we were very active in the life of the church through Sunday School, Disciple Bible Study, church homepage, sound system, Parents Night, handbells, and Chancel Choir. We also attended the Walk to Emmaus while we lived in Middle Tennessee.

Currently we are members at White Oak United Methodist Church in Red Bank, TN. In our church we serve as committee heads and are active in Sunday School.  Laura sings in the choir and volunteers with the children’s ministry, while Tony is a youth ministries worker (but we both help with both ministries as needed). We also host a small group in our home on Monday nights. It’s a true blessing to serve this wonderful church and its dedicated people.

HOBBIES: Our interests vary from hobbies such as computing & blogging (Tony) to stamping & scrapbooking (Laura). Together, we enjoy movies and attending sporting events. On television we can regularly be found tuning in to BBC America, HGTV and CBS programs, dramas, sitcoms and the occasional cooking show on The Food Network. During the TV off-season we try to read and do other summer activities (when we’re not on Facebook or Multiply!)
